I Cor 14: 8: "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?"

Every hour, on the hour, in the historic section of Krakow, Poland, a trumpeter climbs hundreds of steps in the taller of the two towers of St. Mary's Church. He opens the window and plays a soft, melodious song and stops abruptly in the middle. He closes that window and moves to another to play the same song again and stop at the same place. He continues until he has played the partial tune on all four sides of the tower. This has taken place in Krakow every hour for hundreds of years.

It is done to remind the people of the legend of a night guard.

Supposedly an army was advancing on the city at night. The guard discovered it and climbed to this tower and played his trumpet to warn the people. In the middle of the song an archer shot him to keep him from awakening the city. I don't believe it. Because the music is more like taps than revilre. I would have rolled over and gone back to sleep.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not a musician. I am a pastor. I take heart in the fact that some of the greatest music in Christianity has come from the Bible study of pastors. They discovered some great truth about God and in their moments of meditating upon it a poem was born. Ones with musical talent would step into the process and would write a tune that would best convey the message and make memorable the words. The type of music used would be in harmony with the message it tries to get across. That song would be used by God to strengthen his people.

When words expressing holiness are sung to a style of music used to sexually seduce, the message of the music is lost to the style of the music. I find it ironic that ones I have talked to who are most devoted to "contemporary Christian music" disdain inconsistencies in Christian's lives but their music is inconsistent. The secular rock stars are more honest than the Christians.

They state openly in their interviews that the music is all about sex, drugs and rebellion. What should the Christian do? Col 3: 16-17 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."

How can God's word be more "rich" or abundant in you? Use a melody that supports the lyrics. And choose music based upon what God would like. We at Certain Sound are thrilled that there are many producers of Christian music today who start with a Bible based philosophy. We love the old favorite hymns and we also realize that each generation should also be allowed to express in new songs what they discover about God. Both the old arrangements and new songs should be music that provides a clear message in word and accompaniment.

The problem is getting the good music into the hands of God's people. Most of the "Christian book stores" only carry "contemporary Christian Music". We have developed CertainSound.com to provide "one stop shopping" for music from many creators of conservative Christian music.

We see it as a ministry to make this type of music available to purchase from your home computer.

You and your friends' use of CertainSound.com will make it possible for this resource to stay at your finger tips. Let others know we are here.
